Girl Power – Best Female Characters In Literature

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that some of the best characters in literature are female.

From evil to perfect to romantic to old to youthful to brave – I’ve made a list of my favorite female characters for your review and discussion.

Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series.

She has an encyclopedic knowledge and a quick wit.  She’s a heroine for women of all ages!

Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice.

Instead of marrying for money she wants to marry for love; she’s a very complex character for the time period she inhabits.

Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables.

Spirited, good-hearted, and unfailingly optimistic, it is hard not to love Anne of Green Gables.

Lisbeth Salander from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Yes, she’s a super-dark character – but, she’s a world-class computer hacker and amazing at hiding her identity.  Dark, daring – but we love her anyway.

Nancy Drew from the Nancy Drew Mysteries.

A cultural icon that is cited as a influence by many women who have gone into detective and legal work.  After all, she solves mysteries that the River Heights PD couldn’t solve.

Anyone I missed?  Who’s your favorite female literary character?
