Mary Beth Keane attended Barnard College and the University of Virginia, where she received an MFA.  She was awarded a John S. Guggenheim fellowship for fiction writing, and has received citations from the National Book Foundation, PEN America, and the Hemingway Society.

Her first novel, The Walking People (published in 2009) was a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award.  Her second novel, Fever (published in 2013) was named a best book of 2013 by NPR Books, Library Journal, and The San Francisco Chronicle.

In 2011 she was named to the National Book Foundation’s “5 under 35”.

Her newest novel, Ask Again, Yes, was published in June of 2019, debuted at #5 on the New York Times best seller list.  Both Fever and Ask Again, Yes are in development to become limited television series.
